The Family Place By Christine Stewart
Last year York North Family Resource Programmes- The Family Place celebrated twenty years in York Region. We started off the celebrations with our first annual Family Fun Fest. This free event included pony rides, entertainment, vendors, pumpkin painting, story time, games, face painting and of course the concession stand run by our friends from The Mount Albert Lions Club. The event attracted over 400 families and was so successful that we have teamed up with The Mount Albert Business Association to bring two fantastic free community events to Mount Albert on the same day. On Saturday September 24th The Family Place will host Family Fun Fest at the Mount Albert Community Centre and The Mount Albert Business Association will be hosting Music Mania in the evening at various establishments within Mount Albert.
Throughout our 2010-2011 operating season we had special events and programs to mark our anniversary. What better way to wrap up the season that by being selected by Magna International as one of the recipient charities for this years Wild West Hoedown. We were elated to be chosen and spent countless hours promoting the event and selling event and raffle tickets, thanks to our many supporters from across the province for their support!! On Saturday, September 10th the board, staff and volunteer team will be working at the Hoedown celebrating a fantastic event in our community. What does Magna funding mean to our organization? With the funds raised we will be facilitating new programs for our members, increasing our operational budget, purchasing new materials for the center and launching several new programs for our members. Many thanks to the Magna International Hoedown for supporting York North Family Resource Programmes - The Family Place, and the good work that we do.
